We are happy to announce the 2023 recipient of the Maria Karamalis Award is NSW Account Executive, Nicola Benson.
The Maria Karamalis Award remembers and honours our past colleague and friend Maria who passed away in October 2020 after a stoic battle with breast cancer. In keeping Maria’s spirit alive within MBIB, this peer nominated award is presented to the team member who best demonstrates the values and behaviours of Maria, being:
- Going above and beyond for our clients, their team and MBIB,
- Bringing people together through collaboration and the recognition of others ideas,
- Have a positive impact on the culture of their team, office or the wider MBIB business,
- Demonstrate genuine empathy with clients, colleagues and our stakeholders,
- Engagement across all areas of the MBIB business.
Nicola was nominated for her positive contribution to the local NSW team as well as the wider MBIB business. Nicola leads the way on activities such as Stadium Stomp, March Charge, Potluck team lunches, birthday celebrations, Monday Mindbender quiz, MBA engagement and as a founding and active member of the MBIB Health & Wellbeing team.
Nicola has an innate skill in bringing people together in an inclusive and welcoming environment and is most definitely has shown a sustained positive impact on our business culture and engagement.
In announcing Nicola as the 2023 award recipient at our recent National Staff Conference, we also recognised and congratulated our other team members who were nominated by their colleagues, and who also make valuable contributions to the MBIB community. Congratulations to Christine Hill, Dion Zissis and Hannah Collins for the valuable contributions they each make to their colleagues and MBIB clients.
The recipient of the Maria Karamalis Award each year receives $500 donated to a charity of their choice, as well as a paid day of volunteer leave. MBIB has donated $500 to the Black Dog Institute on Nicola’s behalf, and we look forward to hearing of Nicola’s volunteer day plans when they are confirmed.
